Phonetic Typing

Homophones - are words that sound the same but have different meanings. Sometimes these homophones can be confused when writing.
Led/Lead both have the same sound, but they have different meaning.
1. He was the drum major who lead/led the parade.
2. Old buildings may have lead/led in the paint on the walls.

Lead is a metal.
Led is the past tense of the verb, To Lead (pronounced (leed).

Word Families
There are two families of words that make the 'Ed' sound as in edit. The first family is the CVC word family. /r/ed - My favorite color is red. There are 4 more CVC words in the family.

The other family is the _ead family. /r/ead I read that book yesterday. There are three more words in the family that are formed by adding a single letter to _ead.
